Puede ser en tu casa · Barcelona · 2025 | Diumengem

by Maria Emilia Saez

Puede ser en tu casa is a contemporary art exhibition circuit that proposes an intimate and close-to-home experience: art takes place inside private homes, transforming domestic spaces into sites of encounter, exhibition, and dialogue.

Developed within the framework of Diumengem, the project challenges traditional exhibition formats and shifts the focus toward the everyday, the accessible, and the shared. Each edition opens a private home to the public for a limited time, fostering a direct relationship between artwork, space, and visitor.

Far from the white cube, the works coexist with domestic architecture, objects, and daily life, creating a more sensitive and human way of experiencing art. The visit is not only about looking, but about inhabiting, engaging in conversation, and connecting.

The circuit unfolds across different homes in Barcelona throughout 2025. Events are announced in advance and hosted with limited capacity, reinforcing the project’s intimate and community-driven nature.

Puede ser en tu casa is, above all, an invitation to rethink where and how art happens:
not always in institutions, not always in galleries — sometimes, simply, at home.

Palimpsesto de una vida

Dedicated to my grandmother, my refuge, my guiding presence.
An ode to the wisdom of a simple life.

Exhibited in Puede ser en tu casa × Diumengem

In this series, I explore migration and the home as a symbolic refuge. Inspired by the concept of the palimpsest—a manuscript that preserves traces of previous writings layered onto the same surface—the work reflects on the paths we choose, the bonds we weave, and how these re-signify the territories we inhabit over time.

The series moves through seven territories that are representative of the life of Francisca Dominga Ayala. These layers enter into dialogue with one another, evoking points of departure, decisions, encounters, and cultures that intertwine to form an intimate narrative where space, time, and memory converge. They are fragments of life that embody search and transformation.

Each territory is not only a physical place, but also an emotional and temporal dimension that leaves its mark. A vital palimpsest, where what came before does not disappear, but remains, is re-signified, and actively shapes the present.

Guided by a deep longing for a simple life, this work is also an inward journey. In shared everyday moments and in minimal gestures, a way of inhabiting the world is revealed: with calm, with meaning, with truth. This gaze toward simplicity is not a renunciation, but an affirmation.
The art of inhabiting with awareness as a daily practice.
